"Armenian presence in the Holy Land" Conference at Saint Michel Church in Luxembourg

07 December, 2022

On December 7, 2022, the Conference "Armenian presence in the Holy Land" was held in the Saint-Michel Church of Luxembourg, which was organized by the Conférence Saint-Yves (CSY) of Luxembourg Catholic lawyers in cooperation with the Armenian Embassy in the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

CSY President William Simpson opened the Conference.

Ambassador Tigran Balayan delivered his introductory remarks and briefed the audience about the systematic destruction of dozens of Armenian churches, monasteries, and graves in the territories that came under the control of Azerbaijan after the aggression against Artsakh in 2020, accompanied by a series of war crimes by the Baku regime.

The main speaker of the Conference was Sosi Andezyan, a religious anthropologist, a specialist in Christian churches and sanctuaries in Jerusalem, and a former researcher at the French Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Andezyan presented details about the Armenian presence in the Holy Land from the 4th century to the present days.

The Conference was concluded by the Pontifical delegate of the Armenian Apostolic Church to the Western Europe and representative to the Holy See Khajag Archbishop Barsamian, who provided general information about the Armenian Church and specifically about the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and its St. Hakob Armenian Monastery.

At the end of his speech, a joint prayer was performed at the invitation of the Holy Father.

Auxiliary Bishop of Luxembourg Leo Wagner, the ambassador of Greece, other high ranking officials and guests, Armenians residing in Luxembourg and in different communities of its neighboring countries attended the Conference.
